Inverness band Red Ronson’s Valentine’s song Sweetheart Be Mine with its video inspired by Love Heart sweets has been given a revamp for release in time for this year’s day for lovers.

Singer Andrew Barnett explained that though the initial recording of the song’s DIY ethic is intact, they jumped at the chance to record a couple of tracks with local producer Mike Hogg.

Andrew explained: “Sweetheart Be Mine seemed to be very well received across the board last time from downloads to YouTube views.

“So doing a professional studio recording of Sweetheart Be Mine was the obvious choice especially given Valentine’s Day is tomorrow (Friday).

“Also we did Salvador Dali – for me it’s my favourite of our songs – and it also ties in very closely to Sweetheart Be Mine, so the thought was to record both and release them as a pair of songs.

“It was a privilege to work with Mike Hogg, something we had talked about for a long time – we finally managed to get the time to do it.

“Mike has done live sound for some incredibly high profile artists over many years, from Belle and Sebastian to Joan Armatrading to Kodaline and now he’s doing full service studio recording with The End Room Records we seized the opportunity!”

But as well as the chance to hear the new version of the song, romantics can get a second version of Andrew in his solo project Claire’s Brother, playing the Carnivale acoustic night at Hootanannys’ Bothy tomorrow (Friday) from 8pm.

“It’s kind of an alter ego... my Tony Clifton if you will.

“I do some similar stuff to the band, some sillier stuff and some more meaningful stuff.

“I’m playing the Valentine’s Special Carnivale in the Bothy on the top floor of Hootanannys and everyone is welcome – except happy couples rubbing it in our collective faces.

You can pick up either of the Red Ronson songs on iTunes and Amazon now or go to www.soundcloud.com/redronson for a free download of Sweetheart Be Mine. Claire’s Brother is part of the St Valentine’s night line-up at the Bothy at Hootanannys, Inverness, tonight (Friday). Andrew also says he’s a new fan of Snapchat, so search for Claire’s Brother for “snapchats of a strange man with a strange moustache”.
