Movie Of The Week: Pompeii
Movie Of The Week – Pompeii
Release: Wednesday April 30
Starring: Kit Harington, Emily Browning
Synopsis: Set in 79 A.D., this is the epic story of Milo, a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
Why You Should See It: See that synopsis up there? Ignore it. This isn't an “epic story”. This isn't a story of star-crossed lovers set against the backdrop of one of the most historically significant natural disasters of all time. This is a giant lump of ham smothered in mountains of cheese. And that's why you should see it.
Sometimes a film is enjoyable not because it's artistically relevent. Sometimes you just want to sit and munch popcorn – this film has you covered. From Kit Harington (best known as professional know-nothing Jon Snow in medieval sex-'em-up Game Of Thrones) looking serious in a leather skirt to Kiefer Sutherland's turn as the villain – bringing with him a trough full of scenery to chew up over the course of this – this is one film you don't have to engage your brain for. That's why it's fabulous.
