New Eden Court programme brings top theatre and music to city of Inverness with Barber Shop Chronicles, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Frozen inspiration Snow Queen adaptation by Scottish Ballet and more due to arrive from October to March
CRITICALLY-acclaimed dramas, spectacular musicals and stunning dance performances are on the agenda for Inverness over the next six months, as Eden Court announces their next season.
The Inverness theatre has been busy behind the scenes compiling its winter programme, drip-feeding several big name shows over the last few months to whet appetites.
And now with the brochure’s launch, eager north arts fans can see just what is on its way.
Speaking about the launch, Eden Court chief executive James Mackenzie-Blackman said: “We’re delighted to be presenting a world-class programme of work over the next six months.
“The best artists from across Scotland, the UK and from across the planet will head to the Highlands to wow, delight and entertain audiences old and new.”
The programme is stuffed with shows big and small. October starts the brochure off with a bang, with a suitably witchy production to see in the month of Halloween – as Scottish Ballet’s adaptation of Arthur Millar’s classic witchcraft allegory The Crucible visits on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10.
Also visiting will be Barber Shop Chronicles, bringing the debating chamber of the barbershop and its importance to African men to the Highlands for a four night run from Wednesday 16 after two sell-out runs at the National Theatre and a world tour.
November sees one of the loudest and proudest musicals, as Priscilla Queen of the Desert – starring Strictly Come Dancing winner Joe McFadden – rolls into town with its dragged-up disco anthems and feel-good story of acceptance from Monday 18 for a six night run.

And there will also be slices of gothic suspense and horror, with runs for stage adaptations of both the classic horror The Exorcist (Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16) and Daphne du Maurier’s classic psychological drama My Cousin Rachel (Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30).
Slightly less spooky but by no means less beastly, Eden Court’s pantomime fills December – with Beauty and the Beast coming to the Empire theatre from Friday, December 6 until Sunday, January 5.
While January keeps the wintery festivities going with another trip from Scottish Ballet, who will be bringing their 50th birthday celebrations to a close with the brand new production of the Snow Queen from Wednesday 29 for four nights.
February will see another anniversary being celebrated, as West End musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story visits Inverness as part of its 30th birthday celebrations from Monday 3 until Saturday 8.
And Scottish icon Oor Wullie will be able to tick something off his bucket list, as a new musical from Dundee Rep based on the hit comic series comes to Inverness from Monday 10 for six nights.
Closing the new programme run in March, Eden Court will welcome one of dance’s biggest stars as Carlos Acosta brings his dance troupe to the theatre for a programme of new and existing works on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11.
There are also a huge range of concerts, stand up performances and more taking place at the theatre over the next six months, along with the theatre’s usual lineup of classes.
