Public vote open as Highland singer/songwriter and former Red Kites frontman Moteh Parrott shortlisted for first ever BBC Radio Scotland award
HIGHLAND musician Moteh Parrott has been shortlisted for the inaugural BBC Radio Scotland Singer/Songwriter Award, alongside nine other singer/songwriters from around Scotland.
It’s now up to the public to decide who goes through to the next round.
Originally from the south side of Loch Ness, Moteh was shortlisted for the award after submitting his original song Afterglow, alongside a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s classic, Everywhere.
He has been playing in the Inverness music scene for more than 10 years with his bands Red Kites and Moteh Parrott and Friends, and performed at Belladrum Festival this year on the Grassroots stage.
Speaking about being shortlisted, he said: “"This is the biggest opportunity I've had so far with my original music. It's amazing to have been shortlisted, but to go through to the final would be incredible!
“Thanks to Radio Scotland and to everyone involved for supporting grassroots music in Scotland"
The next round of the competition is a public vote, with the top four going through to a live final held at St Luke’s venue in Glasgow on BBC Music Day.
The prize for the winner includes a recording session with the BBC, a slot at TRNSMT festival, and the chance to play the BBC Hogmanay Live show.
