Oor Wullie leaps from page to stage

There is no shortage of Jings! Crivvens! and Help ma boab! in this week’s offering at His Majesty’s Theatre with the arrival of Oor Wullie The Musical.

Despite being born in Greenock, Wahid is fed up of being made to feel like he doesn’t belong in his home town...that is until he is introduced to Scotland’s favourite boy on a bucket by a sympathetic school librarian and his whole world turns inside out.

The show welcomes everyone’s favourite characters - including Wee Eck, Fat Bob, Soapy Soutar, Primrose and PC Murdoch - into The Real World in a desperate search for Wullie’s iconic bucket, before dragging Wahid back into the carefully drawn world of Auchenshoogle.

Wee Jeemy and artist Dudley Watkins both manage to make an appearance too!

The show has been cleverly written in a way that each scene plays out like a comic strip, and there is no shortage of laughs while the show simultaneously tackles serious topics like racism and bullying.

If the thought of Wullie speaking Scots makes you 'feart' (scared!), then worry not as the characters are so animated in their delivery that I doubt you'll ever be left in much doubt of what is going on.

There are some pretty catchy songs added to the mix, too, which help to really bring the characters to life.

The comic has been brought to life with a script which offers humour and enjoyment for all ages, from children right through to more mature audience members.

Regardless of how you know Wullie – from the occasional Sunday paper, decades of Christmas annuals or even just the latest charity Bucket Trail – there’s something in this show to delight all fans... he really is a’body’s Wullie!

Oor Wullie is in Aberdeen until Saturday.
