CLASSICAL singing megastar Russell Watson is set to thrill a full house at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen in a spectacular charity concert later this summer.

The Lancashire-born tenor will be accompanied in the one-off show on Thursday, August 21, by the Aberdeen Sinfonietta.

Sponsored by BP, the event has been organised by the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust with all proceeds going to its chosen beneficiary – Scottish social care charity Cornerstone.

Watson has been singing since he was a child and began to become better known after he performed at a working men's club.

He has released singles and albums of both operatic and pop songs and will be showcasing his latest album, Only One Man, in the Aberdeen show, along with a selection of popular classical numbers.

Founded in 1987, Aberdeen Sinfonietta has established itself as one of the foremost contributors to music-making in the North-east, giving regular concerts in the Music Hall, as well as providing the orchestra for choral societies in and around Aberdeen.

Lord Provost George Adam said the night is certain to be a huge success.

"We are absolutely thrilled Russell Watson has agreed to perform in Aberdeen for the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust for one night only, to raise money for Cornerstone and help the people the charity supports," he said.

Independent of Aberdeen City Council, the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust was set up in 2000 to support good causes of all kinds in Aberdeen.

Tickets, priced at £40 including booking fee, are on sale now by phone on 01224 641122, at Aberdeen Box Office outlets at the Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre and online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com
