BANFF Cinema has two of the latest blockbuster releases lined up to kick off its 2015 programme on Friday, January 23 in the Harvest Centre Trinity on Castle Street.

And the monthly film organisers have teamed up with Banff's Aul Fife Restaurant on Low Street, which is offering special early evening meal deals for cinema ticket-holders between 4pm and 7.30pm.

The evening's screenings start with family film Penguins of Madagascar (PG) at 5.30pm.

The film features flippered stars Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private who join forces with undercover organisation The North Wind to stop the villainous Dr Octavius Brine from destroying the world as we know it.

That will be followed at 7.30pm by acclaimed director Ridley Scott's (Gladiator, Prometheus) epic biblical adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings (12A).

Employing state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Already lined up for screenings in the coming weeks are a string of new releases with wide appeal to cinema-goers who want to avoid travelling to Elgin or Aberdeen.

February's shows feature Night at The Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb (PG) and The Theory of Everything (12A) with Big Hero 6 (U) on Friday, February 20 and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (12A) to follow on Friday, March 20.

Tickets, priced at £6 for adults and £5 for children, are available from the Strachan Pharmacy branches in Banff and Turriff and by calling 812404 or 01888 562403, respectively. Group discounts are available by arrangement.

Admission can also be paid on the door on the night provided the shows are not sold out.
