Bid for a new Home Bargains store in Inverness moves to the next planning stage
Highland councillors have nodded through an initial planning application for a new Home Bargains in Inverness at a meeting of the south planning committee today.
The application notice for the store to be built with four smaller shops to be built alongside it was on the agenda so that members could raise any relevant concerns they want addressed in the full application.
That application will be due to come back in the coming months outlining in greater detail the proposals for a commercial development application on land near Cranmore Drive in Smithton.
The Home Bargains store would be almost 35,000 sq ft, with 10,000 sq ft of outdoor sales area. The 'retail parade' of smaller units would be about 5000 sq ft.
Applicant TJ Morris has already held an in-person public consultation event at Barn Church in Culloden last week and a second is set for the same venue from 3pm-7pm on August 30.
Members of the design team are expected to be at the events to answer any queries.
In 2019, the overall development at Stratton was reported to comprise 2500 homes, retail, office, health centre, church, community facilities, restaurant/café, primary school, park and ride, hotel and commercial/business uses split over four phases.
The council's area planning manager (south) Christine Macleod stated: "It is recommended the committee notes the submission of the proposal of application notice and advises of any material issues it wishes to be brought to the applicant’s attention."
