Inverness pub the Gellions seeks new later licence
Residents claim they have cause for concern after busy city centre pub the Gellions applied for a late licence that would keep it open until 3am.
The move would allow the pub to serve people in the main drinking area and an upstairs function room on Thursdays to Saturdays.
But some of those who live in the same building have baulked at the idea, warning that the noise from the function room would be too much if kept open so late.
Highland Council environmental health officers met with one resident who raised an objection fearing noise pollution and sound testing supported the allegations.
The woman said she would not object if the late licence only applied to the downstairs bar but not the upstairs drinking area.
Another resident also argued that granting a late license would be too much as there is already a number of late night bars, clubs and pubs in the area.
Within a 100m radius there is Johnny Foxes and The Den, The Caledonian, and Revolution while there are a number of other venues in Church Street.
The council’s licensing board will determine the application on Tuesday.
