The SNP’s Drew Hendry will not be attending tomorrow’s recount of the Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire seat as it is understood the MP and his family are travelling to London today and will not be changing their plans.

The development is far short of conceding but it reinforces the position that the seat was won by Liberal Democrat Angus MacDonald based on numbers gathered on the night.

The likelihood of a politician as disciplined and professional as Mr Hendry to refuse to attend a count that he had stood a competitive chance of winning is extremely small.

However, though it is probably Mr MacDonald has won and the Lib Dems are claiming victory the final confirmation will only come after a second recount tomorrow morning starting at 10.30am.
