Munlochy set for 32 new homes despite local councillor backing local concerns that it will trigger traffic and school roll pressures
Planning approval has been granted for 32 new houses in Munlochy amid fears of traffic and school roll pressures.
Alness-based Pat Munro Ltd along with Broadland Properties have teamed-up for the final phase of the development at Brae Farm Munlochy.
They will now set about erecting 32 affordable houses comprising three pairs of semi-detached units and 26 detached houses just off Hill Park Brae.
Knockbain Community Council neither objected nor supported the application but called for a number of conditions to help the local area.
It warned about the impact that any increase in traffic will have on the A9 Munlochy junction and the Tore roundabout.
The development was passed unanimously but local Highland councillor Craig Fraser admitted he had a number of reservations while he ultimately agreed to the project.
He said: “I am not the first, nor will I be the last, councillor to find themselves in the unenviable position between representing the local residents and community council regarding concerns over a development and trying to obtain the best favourable outcome for the community and requirement for housing which continues to increase and this is recognised locally.
“I will not be putting forward an objection to this development as it is the last phase of build at this location.
“Knockbain Community Council rightly point out that the development will compound traffic volume issues.”
He was also concerned about pressure on schools, given housing was also planned for Rosemarkie, Avoch and Fortrose.
