New Inverness Royal Academy head teacher confirmed as Ian Adamson who currently leads Kingussie High after predecessor Nigel Engstrand’s departure to lead the troubled Fortrose Academy
Inverness Royal Academy (IRA) is set to appoint Kingussie High’s Ian Adamson as its new head teacher hoping to end recent major upheavals at the city school.
Mr Adamson confirmed his departure in a letter to parents and carers of Kingussie pupils and said he expects to be in place sometime after April 12.
He wrote: “I don’t have an official start date yet but it looks likely it will be after the Easter holidays.”
It means the domino effect of drafting in the IRA’s former head to take over the troubled Fortrose Academy, whose interim head teacher was on “approved leave”, continues.
Highland Council then advertised the IRA role school for a £111,000 salary and relocation package.
And now it can be expected the search will be launched to find a replacement for Mr Adamson’s at Kingussie High.
The new head teacher is likely to have his work cut out for him as the IRA has endured its fair share of issues in recent years.
They are mostly related to behaviour of some pupils including repeated “incidents of vandalism” in school toilets.
Such was the problem that then head teacher Mr Engstrand ordered a "‘resetting’ existing behaviour policy to improve current standards in school".
But there are also very positive aspects as well including the newly finished mountain bike trail marking the culmination of efforts going back almost four years.
