Initial planning has been lodged by Highland Council for a long-awaited new primary school in the south west of Inverness.
The Ness Castle school will also have a nursery with an initial capacity for around 200 pupils but will be developed in stages as more and more homes are built over the coming years.
Its expected capacity will be around 600 pupils but that is only likely to be reached in the years after its opening in 2021.
It will be designed by Glasgow’s Stallan-Brand Architecture + Design which has already completed Broomlands Primary in Kelso, Langlee Primary in Galashiels and Halfmerke Primary School in East Kilbride – all of which won awards.
Ness-side councillor Alasdair Christie said: “The primary school must be built make sure there are enough desks for the children because of the pressures on rolls but it must also function as a community centre for the growing number of residents there.”
