STRIKE UPDATE: No street cleaning in Inverness as Highland Council confirms areas affected by walkout amid reports some bins are being emptied in the city while Easter Ross looks like it has been hit worst by the industrial action
Easter Ross is by far the worst affected area at the start of industrial action by waste, street cleaning and recycling staff while there will also be no street cleaning in Inverness.
A number of people reported that bin collections were continuing in the city despite industrial action going ahead by members of the Unite union.
Earlier, the local authority advised households and businesses to continue putting their bins out because the situation was unpredictable and therefore it was still possible some collections would be made.

However, the council underlined: “If your bin has not been emptied, do not put it out again until your next scheduled collection day as we will not have the resource to catch up in between.”
A swathe of Easter Ross from Evanton to Portmahomack will not get household or business waste bins emptied and likewise Ullapool will miss out at the same time as its recycling centre closes as well.
