CLACHNACUDDIN striker James Anderson is confident he can break his record for most goals in a season with four matches remaining.

The 23-year-old grabbed his 22nd goal of the season on Wednesday night as the Lilywhites defeated Strathspey Thistle 3-0 in their Highland League clash in Grantown on Spey.

He is only three goals away from equalling his record of 25 which he set in the 2021-22 season and earned him the Highland League Young Player of the Year Award.

He has also scored 15 goals in his last 14 matches which have helped Clachnacuddin into fifth place and will see them finish in the top half of the table for the first time in over a decade.

Anderson says looking to break his record for the season is a target in the back of his mind. And he believes with the form his teammates are in, he will get the chances to find the net.

He said: “We have four games to go and they are all tough games which include Turriff United away on Saturday.

“Then we are at home to Brora Rangers, away to Forres Mechanics and then home to Formartine.

“They are all good teams, but the way that we are playing just now, we are creating chances against every team that we face.

“I need to see how it goes, but again, the way we are playing, we are creating lots of chances and hopefully I can get on the end of them.

“I have scored 15 goals in my last 14 games, so I can definitely get four in the last four. But I won’t think about it too much, I could get none or I could get six, it depends on how it goes and I will try my best.”

Anderson has had a terrific season after overcoming injury hell when a torn meniscus ruled him out of action for over a year. After missing the majority of the previous campaign, he played his first full 90 minutes in 12 months last August against Inverurie Locos.

He believes he could have had more goals if he had full match sharpness at the beginning of the season, but is now only looking forward.

He said: “I am delighted that I have 22 goals, but also frustrated as I wasn’t fully fit until around November.

“I had a slow start to the season which has made me think what I could have had. But I am happy with how I am playing now and want to end the season as strong as possible.”

Heading to Turriff United on Saturday, Anderson says there is a determination to at least finish the campaign on 60 points which would celebrate the turnaround at the club.

He said: “I wasn’t involved too much last year and it wasn’t great last season, everyone was down in the dumps, but coming back to pre-season, it was like coming back to a new club.

“The standards the gaffer has set has lifted the levels and it is a better place to be.

“The mentality is totally different. We are going to places expecting to get points where we haven’t before. We fancy ourselves against anyone and the league table is showing that as well.

“The gaffer wants fourth and is definitely wanting to reach 60 points, so that is the target for the end of the season.”
